ABOUT
Choosing a college under normal circumstances is challenging enough. But finding one during a global pandemic is next to impossible. The College Kid Guide is designed to help high school Juniors and Seniors navigate this process. It’s a simple concept—a collective of city and college town guides written by current students for prospective students.
The College Kid Guide is not your typical travel guide. Within each article, you’ll find the hidden gems and holes-in-the-wall, rather than the most popular tourist spots that everyone tells you to hit on a college tour. These are recommendations for college kids by college kids. The College Kid Guide provides the inside scoop on life on campus and off.
What do college kids do at night and on the weekend? How do they fill their time when they aren’t in class? Where do people eat, exercise, listen to music, or shop? What’s the best place to get a slice at 3:00 am? What if I just want a little peace and quiet? Where can I find my people? Can I see myself at home here? These are not only the questions I wish I’d known to ask when I was in high school but the answers that will help you determine what school is right for you.
THE FOUNDER
I’m Camryn Cohen, the founder of The College Kid Guide and a Senior at Tulane University. I’ve been a freelance journalist writing for local magazines in New Orleans since my Freshman year. The idea came to me after my article, “A College Kid’s Guide to New Orleans,” was published in Where Y’at Magazine this Fall. People seemed to like it and find it helpful—so I figured, why not do the same thing for every college town or city across the country?
JOIN THE TEAM
The Team consists of my network of friends and strangers far and wide who have graciously and eloquently written about their own college towns and cities. Thanks to everyone’s contributions, The College Kid Guide is expanding quickly.
